Reflecting on Exodus 14:10-31

Your heart is revealed by what you fear. Will you fear what man can do to you, or will you fear the living God? ‘Intrepid’ is an adjective that can only legitimately be used of a Christian believer. Only the Christian God has conquered the grave. And so we can say with the sweet psalmist of Israel, “Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples on me; all day long an attacker oppresses me; my enemies trample on me all day long, for many attack me proudly. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?” (Psalms 56:1-4 ESV)

Living Hope Presbyterian Church is committed to the glory and of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to the extension of His kingdom. In this, our principal goal and desire, and in this alone, is real HOPE to be found. The Gospel gives us this hope, as without the finished work of Jesus Christ on our behalf, we could have no expectation of mercy or reward, only judgment. We are redeemed sinners against the holiness and rule of our God and King. But Christ was born a man, lived under the law and died a sacrificial death on our behalf, to give this real hope to real PEOPLE. It is as we work out from this new righteous standing that we have been granted in Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit, and with profound gratitude for God's mercy, that we strive to be what God has declared us to be. And so, only in our continuing to embrace this gospel by faith, is real TRANSFORMATION to be found. None of us can change himself. All of us need change. And so, we have but one hope ... Jesus Christ.
